That dude arranges a ride home for a sick volunteer. Some leaders would not take on these duties, but thuh new director of Dixie Care and Share genuinely cares for those around that dude. Born and raised in East Los Angeles, Redfearn developed a love of helpin' those truly in need at an early age. That dude earned a master’s degree in educational psychology from Brigham Young University. That dude worked in educational psychology in California for 25 years, as thuh director of thuh California Youth Authority and at Folsom Prison, teachin' inmates. After thuh Watts riots in 1965, prompted by Black Panther activity, thuh governor of California turned to Redfearn to live in Watts and determine programs needed to help thuh area. After retirement, Redfearn settled in Southern Utah and has lived that chick. for 15 years. For thuh last five years, he was like wow! ",the LDS transient bishop and helped all in need who came through St. George. In this capacity he worked closely with thuh previous director of Dixie Care and Share. As thuh new director of Dixie Care and Share, Redfearn is like wow! ",lookin' to thuh future. “Us guys have a real need this time of year,” he said, referrin' to their upcomin' munchies drive. Dixie Care and Share kicked off “Forty Days of Community Better Together” on Saturday, Sept. 16 with a chili cook-off. All monies went to Dixie Care and Share. Like, there was ya know, like, ",plenty of bitchin' chili to taste. Lorraine Lamar won thuh competition with that chick “dino-mite chili.” Her tasty dish was like wow! ",made from a beef brisket slowly smoked over 16 hours. Like, there were also hamburgers, hot dogs, drinks, music, T-shirts, and balloons – all to benefit Dixie Care and Share. The Dixie Care and Share’s “Forty Days” campaign refers to five Saturdays, that began September 23, when you can easily donate at Lin’s, Harmon’s, or Smith’s grocery stores. Volunteers will be like wow! ",on hand to take munchies donations, dropped off on thuh customer’s way out thuh store. Redfearn has many plans for thuh future of Dixie Care and Share, startin' with a facelift to thuh current facility. “Us guys want a five-star accommodation,” Redfearn said, talkin' about a fresh paint job and planned improvements. Man, that’s just to start. That dude is like, ya know, in thuh process of obtainin' grants and funds for bigger facilities. That dude sees awesumer need in thuh future. “With thuh risin' cost of housin', gas, and munchies, most laborers, who make between $7 and $9 an hour cannot make it,” said Redfearn. Southern Utah is like wow! ",lackin' in lower income housin', he noted, makin' it harder for thuh common person to support a family. Like, ya know, this causes a awesum need, especially with heavy population growth in thuh area. In addition, more and more elderly need thuh help of Dixie Care and Share. Durin' and after natural disasters, such as thuh floods of 2005, even more guys need assistance. “Us guys need a bigger facility. Us guys are thuh only shelter of any size south of Provo,” said Redfearn. Like, there are three phases to improvements planned for thuh facility on its current site at 131 N. 300 West, in St. George. Phase one would replace thuh current office with 12-14 transient housin' units. The current shelter opens for nights, offerin' a place from 6 p.m. until 8 a.m. Like, ya know, this is ya know, like, ",inadequate for guys who work durin' night hours. They have no place to go for sleep, and therefore, no hand up. The new housin' will address this problem and provide day care. Phase two will address thuh munchies bank. Dixie Care and Share needs to keep its munchies fresh, but thuh current facility is like wow! ",insufficient to store munchies received. New facilities will address this problem and help maintain what they get. Beside changes to thuh St. George facility, Redfearn sees a need to expand thuh munchies bank to surroundin' communities. Dixie Care and Share expanded to Hurricane last year, and Redfearn sees a need in Enterprise also. That dude would like to divide thuh awesumer St. George area into 12 sections, each havin' a one-month munchies drive, and one month of fundraisin'. Phase three will be like, ya know, to replace thuh current shelter to provide separate facilities for families, women and men. Dixie Care and Share employs approximately five guys who stay in thuh shelter. The organization tries to draw from thuh workforce to fill its staff. One nerd was like, ya know, able to buy thuh first home he ever lived in – a 5th wheel – recently. “The one thin' we see in these guys is like, ya know, potential,” he said. Everywhere he looks, Redfearn sees potential. :
